The Bigger Picture
It was an ocassion to remember and one to forget as our club had mixed fortunes this weekend. The Saturday 1st team squad under the diligent scrutiny of Danny Wakeling made it three out of three wins so far this season but this time it was a late winner in extra time which sealed this 3-2 away victory against a very decent Old Colfeians side at the Leathersellers Ground in Eltham. It was a great result for the lads which saw them move into round two of the Queen Mary Cup. Unfortunately, the 2nd team squad had to cancel their first round Challenge Cup tie at home to the University of Greenwich because of an unexpected illness which spread rather rapidly throughout the squad during an unprecedented 24 hour period. Let's hope that they recover in time to play the same opposition at home next weekend in the first round of the Charity Cup! All three of our OBDSFL squads were in action at home this weekend - Mark Ridley's squad faced a tricky tie against the Welsh Tavern who in previous seasons had reached the latter stages of several cup competitions but couldn't find a way past the men in blue. Rangers did leave it late but in the end their spirit and determination edged it as they moved into round two of the Kent Premier Cup with a fine 2-1 win. The 2nd team squad managed a 0-0 draw against Fairfield who came with a game plan and stuck with it. This Division 2 fixture lacked anyone with enough mischief on the park to create any clear cut goalscoring opportunities, and with several key players absent it was always going to be a tough ask for Micky Perkins' side. The A's were up against a determined Freelands team who came to the Langley looking to secure their place in round two of the Smales Trophy. They did. Gary Small's squad were undone yet again by a couple of sloppy defensive errors which ultimately cost them as Freelands ran out 3-1 winners.
Club Complaints & Procedures
It has been noticed recently that players and managers have taken it upon themselves to correspond directly with league officials regarding a range of issues. Your club secretary is the only person who is responsible for dealing with complaints, procedures and other administrative matters and should always be consulted in the first instance. League officials will not recognise anyone other than the club's secretary when dealing with telephone calls, text messages, emails or other forms of correspondence. If any member has an issue that he or she would like explored and possibly taken further then they must contact the club secretary otherwise the issue will not be recognised and a solution will not be found. Please be advised that in future correct protocol must be observed at all times.
